Identity Politics—the death of civility

Identity politics is shorthand prejudice: a way of judging people based on identity of any kind—race, gender, religion, political party, sexual identity, nationality, class, background, or any assigned category—instead of judging them by their actual words and actions as an individual. It assigns value, guilt, authority, or credibility to a person before they are heard. No thinking required. No investment of mental effort. Just a quick and easy label that can be slapped on someone’s back between doom-scrolls. It also breeds false moral authority.
