Appendix – GLOSSARY

Amillennial, or Amillennialism – The doctrine that says there will be no millennial period, wherein Christ reigns over the earth from Jerusalem. The author does not believe this view is consistent with scripture.

Eisegesis – Letting one’s beliefs affect the interpretation of the text.

Eschatology – Study of the last things.

Exegesis – Taking the Bible for what it says, regardless of what we want it to say.

Futurism, or Futurist – Interpreting prophesies that have not happened yet to be in the future. This is the opposite of (or an answer to) preterism.

Hermeneutical Method – (Hermeneutics) The manner in which one interprets the Bible.

Midtribulational, or Midtribulationalism – The doctrine that says the rapture will occur halfway through the tribulation, at the beginning of the Great Tribulation.

Midwrath – My own view that the rapture occurs during Jesus’ return and acts of wrath upon earth. This view is posttribulational.

No Rapture View – The view that there is no rapture taught in the Bible.

Olivet Discourse – (Mt 24-25; Mk 13; Lk 21) Jesus’ teaching to his four closest apostles on the Mount of Olives, which discusses end times events.

Postmillennial, or Postmillennialism – The doctrine that says the Lord will return after the millennium. The author does not believe this view is consistent with scripture.

Posttribulational, or Posttribulationism – The doctrine that says the rapture of the saints will occur after the tribulation.

Premillennial, or Premillennialism – The doctrine that says the Lord will return before the millennium.

Preterism – The belief that all prophecies have been fulfilled already. Partial Preterism maintains that some prophecies are yet to occur.

Pretribulational, or Pretribulationism – The doctrine that says the rapture will occur prior to the tribulation.

Prewrath View – A doctrine that places the rapture between the Great Tribulation and the Wrath of God.

Rapture – The label for the doctrine that says believers will be transformed into glorified, spirit bodies.

Replacement Theology – Also called Supersessionism or fulfillment theology, replacement theology, is a Christian theological view on the current status of the Church in relation to the Jewish people and Judaism. Namely, that the Church has replaced the Jews as God’s people.

Tribulation – Great Trouble. Suffering, distress, trouble, misery, wretchedness, unhappiness, sadness, heartache, woe, grief, sorrow, pain, anguish, agony.
